We have noticed that since the release of V2.06 DM Smart DSP that some people are unable to communicate between their DSP and the DM Smart DSP application. We have created this article to hopefully fix some of your units that are in a locked up state after updating to this version.
Symptoms of this issue are as follows:
After updating the DSP using the 2.06 DM Smart DSP application, the unit completes the update process but is no longer able to communicate or connect to the DM Smart DSP application (Even if you are prompted for the passcode to login to the DSP post-update).
After connecting the DSP via USB and opening the DM Smart DSP application, the BLUE LED USB ACTIVITY light flickers but the DM Smart DSP application does not prompt for a password.
The computer you are using will still indicate the device is connecting or disconnecting but DOES NOT show the device is malfunctioning in Windows device manager or in MAC OS.
* If your device shows an error on Windows or Mac such as a malfunction, try a brand new USB cable. We recommend ANKER branded from Amazon since they are usually available for same day delivery.
Also try gently moving the Micro-USB end in the USB port of the device. Its possible you may have broken a trace on the board and this will need to be sent in for repair. Micro-USB connectors are somewhat fragile to up and down movement/stress.
Steps to fix communication issue
Step 1: Uninstall the DM SMART DSP application that you currently have installed on your computer and fully restart the computer.
We recommend shutting the computer down instead of a restart procedure. MAC Users need to untick the "Re-Open windows after restart" option.
Step 2: Download but DO NOT install the Legacy version of the DM SMART DSP application here: Legacy DM Smart DSP Versions
Step 3: Power on and connect the D/DM product via USB to the computer.
Step 4: Install the Legacy DM Smart DSP application you just downloaded making sure the DSP/Amplifier is connected to the computer and powered on.
Try to ensure that you do not move the USB cable too much as this is where more problems can occur.
If you are prompted to install FTDI Drivers, you must do this before continuing. The application should do this by itself but if not, you can look at this article after completing the installation of the DM Smart DSP application. The FTDI Driver setup mentioned in this paragraph is not applicable to MAC OS users.
Step 5: Once the installation is complete, you should be prompted for the login code. Once logged into the DM Smart DSP application you will be prompted twice for 2 different updates. One is the application seeing that you are using Legacy Software. Right now, we do NOT want to update the DM Smart DSP application. Choose "NO" on this question.
The Second prompt will be to update the DSP firmware since the DM Smart DSP application detects that it isn't matching the version that the Legacy DM Smart DSP application expects. We want the "update" to "backdate" the firmware so choose "YES" on the firmware update. It will then ask you to save your tune file in case of a catastrophic failure during the update process. Once you save the file, it will begin to update after a few moments. The update will take some time to finish.
Step 6: After the update finishes and the DSP reboots, you should at this point have control over your unit. If this is the case, you can now disconnect the DSP, uninstall the Legacy version of the DM Smart DSP Applciation, reboot your computer, re-install the current version of the DM Smart DSP Application found here, making sure that you reconnect the DSP/Amplifier before beginning the installation, update the FTDI drivers as needed, and log back into your DSP/Amplifier.
If the above process was successful, once you log into the DSP in the updated DM Smart DSP application, it will allow you to update the firmware on the DSP to the current version and you will have regained access to your DSP!
If the process above has not worked for you, please contact technical support here. We may have you try a few other things or we may need to get the unit sent in to be re-flashed.
