MacOS: How do I get past the warning messages when trying to install the DM Smart DSP software on my Mac?

Due to additional layers of security in macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina you may encounter several different warning messages when trying to download and install the AudioControl DM Smart DSP software on your Mac. These messages refer to the software not having been downloaded from the Apple App Store, the developer cannot be verified, Apple cannot check it for malicious software, or the software has not been notarized in macOS Catalina.
